Thou Shalt Break Them

record coverSo we’ve been potting hard all year so it’s nice to hear that potters get recognized with their own verse in the seasonal favourite, Handel’s Messiah. The verse “Thou Shalt Break Them” refers, over and over, to “a potter’s vessel” and in the same breath tells one that “thou shall dash them to pieces” which is what every potter has sometimes felt like doing.

Here’s the verse, and after you listen to it, consider your seconds pile: wouldn’t it be cathartic to sing along to this recording while flinging each flawed pot at the wall as you “dash them to pieces”? Better wear those safety goggles.
